Clean Up Orphaned Files

Orphaned files are files which no longer have a parent. In this case the parent being an item in your database. The files in SleepingSalesman that can be orphaned are item images and item descriptions. When you delete an item from your database SSAM will NOT delete the description file or the images associated with it. Therfor this function exists to allow you to recover the lost disk space.

When you runn the "Clean Up Orphaned Files" function you will be warned that the function deletes files from you local PC. Select an action as appropriate.

Tips

  • It's usually a good idea to run this function regularly. How often depends on how often you update the SleepingSalesman. As a rough idea, if you're removing 5-10 items a week then running weekly would probably be ideal.

Warnings

  • Remember that there is no going back. Once files are delete they are gone forever.
  • Although you don't HAVE to run this function, if you don't you will eventually consume all your disk space on your web site. As this space costs you money this probably isn't a good idea to leave it too long.
