Adding Images To Your Vehicle

Adding images is a fairly simple task. Although it may seem a bit complicated at first, it's actually very easy once you've done it a few times.

Before you start uploading images, you'll need to know where about on your computer they are located. You can view a general "task list" of things you should do when taking pictures of a vehicle by clicking here. The list covers setting up and general preparation through to getting the images onto your computer. Pay particular attention to step 3.

From the "Add/Edit/Remove Vehicles" option in the SleepingSalesman Administration menu, select the vehicle you wish to add images for.

Note: If you're in the process of creating a new vehicle, you must save it before you can add images to it. See here for more information on this.

Scroll down to the link that says "Edit images for this item" and click the link. Again, this is not available until AFTER you save the vehicle for the first time.

Note: If you've made changes to any of the vehicle properties, make sure you press the "Save Item" button before clicking the "Edit images for this item" link.

After you click the "Edit images for this item" link you are presented with the upload options for the vehicle.

Here are step by step instructions for uploading your images.

Press the "Choose..." button.
Find the image on your computer that you want to upload. Select it.
You can delete any of the images you selected by pressing the "Delete" button to the right of the file name.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you : -
1. Have selected 5 images.
2. The files sizes of the images you select are below 2MB.
3. You have selected all the images you want to upload.
Press the "Upload" button.

Tips

Uploading in batches of 5 is probably the easiest method.
Although SleepingSalesman will resize images for you, it's actually quicker if you resize them yourself. This is because the slowest part of the task, uploading from your PC to SleepingSalesman is dependant on your internet upload speed - a speed that is, historically, slow. If you resize the images yourself then there is less to upload which will therefore be quicker.
SleepingSalesman only supports JPG images.
You can have as many images per vehicle as you wish. However just for efficiency reasons - time to take and upload images - 10 is probably a comfortable maximum.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why doesn't my image Upload?
A: It could be for any of the following reasons: -

The image is not a JPG/JPEG file.

The image is too large

You are trying to upload too many images at once (i.e. the total upload size is too large)

Q: My image had excellent detail. After I uploaded it it's really small in comparison.
A: SleepingSalesman resizes large images down to a smaller size. This is by design. Please read the Image Concepts to understand why this is the case.

Q: How many images can I have in a vehicle?
A: There is no limit really but we'd say around 10 images per vehicle should be plenty.

Q: What's the minimum number of images I can have per vehicle?
A: 0 - However the thumbnail will be replaced with a graphic that says "No Image"
